This series is an archaeology of letters where the symbols of language are presented as monuments left abandoned in unspecified landscapes. Collaged from black and white newspaper photos, the works appear as archaic prints, Piranesian ruins of a bygone era, a possible record of a “Grand Tour” of a past, or future, civilization. The meaning of these architectural relics is not fixed – they remain as mysterious as Stonehenge. The ‘prints’ incorporate scenes in which can be found small traces of activity, a touch of human presence in contemplation of landscapes assembled from the remnants of everyday life. All works are collage on board, 30.5cm x 23cm, 2017-18.
